La Garrotxa
La Garrotxa is located in the north of Catalonia, in the upper basin of the Fluvià River.
Two totally different types of landscape can be seen in this county. Forty volcanoes and various lava flows are scattered across the southern half, forming a gentle nearly flat landscape, which is protected by the Garrotxa Volcanic Zone Natural Park. From the Fluvià River Valley towards the north, the landscape changes radically. It becomes more abrupt and steep with abundant cliffs and gorges; this is the Alta Garrotxa, an area declared to be of natural interest.
